Professor of Botany (TU) at the University of Oviedo, research associate at the Biodiversity Research Institute, IMIB (Univ.Oviedo-CSIC-Princ.Asturias) and director of science of the Jardín Botánico Atlántico de Gijón (Asturias, Spain). He serves as Vice-president of the International Association for Vegetation Science (IAVS), and as associate editor of Applied Vegetation Science and Mediterranean Botany. His research covers different topics of vegetation ecology, with a special interest on biogeography, community ecology and seed biology.
