Marcial Escudero (born in Seville, 1982) is an associate professor at the Department of Plant Biology and Ecology at the University of Seville. He graduated in Environmental Sciences from Pablo de Olavide University in Seville (2006), where he also completed his Ph.D. in 2009. During his doctoral studies, he undertook two research stays at Wageningen Plant Research in the Netherlands and at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, USA. During his postdoctoral studies, he undertook research stays and postdocs at CEES University of Oslo (2010), the Morton Arboretum (2010-2012), the Field Museum of Natural History of Chicago (2012-2014), the Doñana Biological Station (2014-2015) and the University of Seville (2015-2017). Since 2017 he is professor at University of Seville. He has published over 100 articles in prestigious international journals about plant systematics and evolution and has participated in 16 research projects, being the principal investigator in three of them.
