Biography

I am a Full Professor of Botany and Plant Ecology at the Complutense University of Madrid since the year of 2005. Since 2018 I am also an Associate Researcher of the Organismic and Evolutionary Biology Department at Harvard University working around the great botanical collections preserved at Harvard University Herbaria.
Currently, my research focus on two geographical areas: Mediterranean Basin and Pacific Northwest territories. I published some outstanding contributions to syntaxonomy of evergreen forests, broad-scale vegetation, high mountain vegetation, ultramafic -serpentine- vegetation, halophyte phylogeny and taxonomy, and halophytic vegetation, among others. Moreover, the conservation of European habitats is also of my interest in research since the last years.
