Joan Vallès. Born in Figueres (Catalonia) in 1959. PhD in Pharmacy (Botany, 1986) and BSc in Linguistics (Catalan language, 1982). Full professor of Botany at the Universitat de Barcelona. Research lines: 1) Plant systematics and evolution (with cytogenetic approaches); 2) Ethnobotany (ethnofloristic studies in the Catalan linguistic area and metaanalytic work); 3) Scientific terminology (popular names and technical terminology in botany); 4) History of botany (Catalan botanical of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries).
