Abstract
Curcuma is a genus in the Zingiberaceae family. Previous studies havedemonstrated their diverse medicinal benefits, includingantioxidant, anti-cancer, antimicrobialand anti-inflammation activities. The objective of this research is to investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of the rhizomes of Curcuma putii, aspecies discovered in Thailand in 2019. To determine the anti-inflammatory activity, theinhibition of nuclear translocation ofa transcription factor is employed by disrupting the nuclear translocation of NF-B from cytoplasm into nucleus.Dried rhizomes of Curcuma putii were extracted using six different solvents including ethanol, methanol, acetone, hexane, ethyl acetate and dichloromethane. Initially, cytotoxicity experiments through the MTT assay were performed and found that concentration of 50 g/mL is the highest concentration in all solvents determined to be non-toxic to human immortalized keratinocyte HaCaT cells. In addition, theNF-B nuclear translocation activitywas performed and found that the extracts from all six solvents at 50 g/mL non-significantly inhibited against HaCaT cells. This serves as a direction for future studies on the anti-inflammatory potency and other bioactivity of Curcuma putii.
