Abstract
Herbarium data can be of varying quality, some if surprisingly good, some is terrible. How do you decide if a sample is worth working with and what can you get from samples which will not yield up good sequence? We use examples from our own work to explore the limits of herbarium genetics, and present an outline of approaches which can maximise useful information from samples which would never pass quality control in a commercial company.
